Causes & Understanding...

Unfortunately there is no x-ray or blood test that can diagnose depression or other mental health problems. The correct diagnosis can only be made by recognising the symptoms and identifying the possible cause.

Depression can be caused by a number of different life events or situations. Likewise, Depression can be in different levels of severity or last for varying amounts of time.

  • Death/Bereavement. Losing a loved one, Friend, Parent or Grandparent

  • Divorce or separation. The failure or breakdown of a marriage or relationship

  • Work and Finances. Redundancy, Dismissal, Pay Cuts, Demotion, Relocation, Debt

  • Physical Injury and Illness. Disablement or injury resulting in isolation from interests and work

  • History. Its not medically confirmed but there is a possibility Depression could be hereditary.

  • Drink and Drugs. Excessive use can lead to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.

  • Childhood. Events and experiences from your younger years

  • Diet. Unhealthy diet and no exercise

Across our team of volunteers we have experience of many of the events and reasons that can effect mental health so please make contact with us if you would like help. We want to hear from you.
